Mixed Media/Handmade paper/lampsPatricia Branstead

“My work expresses the underlying depth of thought and spiritual connection with nature that we find, subtly in pattern, texture and rhythm. ”
Patricia is an abstract artist working with the flow and intuition of her thoughts. Her inspiration is nature; pattern, color, rhythm, and movement along with Balance and conflict, in action and reaction, universe and spirituality that brings life and unity to us and the world around us. Trees, shadows, water, wind, and transparency are among the subjects that mix with a provocative randomness and show the way that everything is connected and works together.
Using her process of monotype, each piece is a one-of-a-kind painting. She works on a Plexiglas surface, laying the thin Asian paper on top of her painting, rubbing it from the back, transferring the paint to the paper and creating the image.
Through this method she can express her emotions and spontaneity. She paints many papers to find the ones that carry her vision. Then she either hangs them as paintings or creates them as lamps, all part of one family.
Patricia received a MFA in Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute, then moved to NYC where she was the Master printer of her own studio – Aeropress. After many years she moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado and was the Director/Master printer for Riverhouse Editions. Her next move was to Denver Colorado where she worked on her own art practice. She moved to Los Angeles in 2021 and now lives and works in her studio at the Brewery.
