Oil PainterDonald Britton

“For me, painting is a means to see more clearly and enjoy more deeply the beauty of nature. “

Donald is a landscape artist working with oil paints to create plein air and studio paintings. For him, painting is a means to see more clearly and enjoy more deeply the beauty of nature.

He begins by spending enough time in an area to learn what about it most interests him. It might be the transparency of a wave, shadows in a canyon or the quiet depth of a stream. He constructs the painting so as to optimize those features.

According to Donald, “With our remarkable ability to adapt, we’re often not aware of a loss of beauty around us. But, returning to urban settings after a stay in the mountains or the desert, the first few days back are always a little jarring – the traffic, the noise, the attitudes. Then one begins to adapt and forget that it could be otherwise.” His hope is his paintings will remind viewers of the beauty of their alternative home.

Donald’s work has been widely exhibited and installed in several US embassies. It was also the subject of a feature article in International Artist Magazine.
