WatercolorThe Art of Joanna Mersereau

“I believe that everything is connected; the earth, the sea, all life forms and the universe.

Beth Mersereau-Sanders is the daughter of the late Joanna Mersereau. She will have a special showing of her mother’s art at the show.

Joanna Mersereau painted in traditional pure watercolor technique, using flat, vibrant color patterns, often enhanced with metallic gouache or gold leaf.

Joanna said, “I am passionately involved in exploring the design, structure and color in my subjects. I believe that everything is connected; the earth, the sea, all life forms and the universe. I show this with ‘see-through’ arcs and lack of perspective, using
brilliant, colorful watercolors in which shapes overlap, revealing underlying designs and carried almost to semi-abstraction. My intention is for the viewer to be engrossed visually in the painting, with the eye continuing to follow new paths of lines, planes and values.
The painting is successful if the viewer sees traditional objects which morph into semi-abstract design, then back into representation; a circular path.”
