CeramicsMonika Sudol

The technical yet unpredictable nature of clay appeals to her as an artist and engineer.
Monika’s ceramic artwork centers the experience of sharing meals. Food is essential to life and her work celebrates its preparing, sharing, and savoring. Her designs also reflect human interaction, acknowledging we are creatures interconnected by necessity and, most importantly, meaningful relationships.
A former mechanical engineer, Monika translates her attention to detail, technical knowledge, and care for the user’s experience to the medium of clay. Her functional pieces are made for the people using them – comfortable mug handles, smoothly pouring spouts, thoughtful items to make cooking easier, etc.The technical yet unpredictable nature of clay appeals to her as an artist and engineer. It’s where her dualities, structured left-brain and intuitive right-brain, meet. Her ceramics essentially comprise two bodies of work – one bold, colorful, and happy with precise designs; the other earthy, dark, and serious, celebrating the materials’ natural tendencies.
A Boston native and new Redlands resident, Monika is excited to be part of this year’s show and get to know the community of artists in the area!
